Harmonie Harp School

At Harmonie Harp School you can learn to play the harp from beginner to advanced. No previous musical skills are necessary, we travel at your unique speed. I teach from grade 1 through to grade 8.
I include sight reading, composition, music theory, emotion, imagination, problem solving, creating arrangements for songs, duets, and technical skills in my lessons, to activate both sides of the brain. If you want to sing with the harp I can help you too.
Rental harps are available if you want to try it before you buy.

An inspiring teacher.
I have three daughters, ages 12, 10, and 4. Recently, we all started taking harp lessons as a family. It’s a beautiful instrument – one that makes a lovely sound even for beginners. At today’s lesson, we received a lot more than harp instruction. Our sweet teacher, Annemieke, chatted with us about life, positive thinking, and encouraged us to enjoy the pace and practice level we’re comfortable with. As we departed, she gave each of us a warm and tender hug that helped us feel like beloved friends.
These are the things Annemieke did that left us feeling uplifted, and more endeared not only to her, but to the instrument we’re studying.
From Anna;
Dear Annemieke,
You have brought me so much love and light and happiness, and it has been an honour to share in a little part of your beautiful life.
You are a true goddess, an amazing mother, a hugely talented musician and a wonderful friend.
Apart from playing the harp you have taught me to trust my intuition, face my fears and open my heart.
So much love to you and your gorgeous family. When I am back in Scotland we will set up skype lessons.
From Kirsten and Thea;
Dear Annemieke.
Now we are back in Germany and Thea has had three months of harp lessons with you in NZ, she would much prefer to continue having lessons from you. You motivated her, and got her excited again about playing the harp. Sadly her teacher in Germany doesn't motivate her as much, so can we please have skype lessons with you? Thank you so much!
From Ariane;
Thank you for helping me grow and recognize my love for the harp. You are absolutely amazing, you are not just my harp teacher but also my friend.
From Rosemary;
'Thank you for your undying enthusiasm, patience and sincerity. Your love for sound has brought forth a new interest in pure music&loving friends. A true teacher with a true heart.'

Harmonie Harp Orchestra
When you have learnt the basic skills you will be invited to join our Harmonie Harp Orchestra.
We get together once a month, and it is a wonderful opportunity to learn to play with other harpists, have fun making mistakes and to make new friends.
When we sound really good we do two performances for the public. It is a rare treat to hear all these harps played together and we want to share the joy!

Tribute to the concert you gave us with your students on Great Barrier Island.
With the first caress
of fingers to strings,
the first note set free
on shining wings,
it comes
and the magic begins.
The leap of recognition
and slow warm glow of joy,
as when old friends long missed
are gladly met again,
something is passing,
bridging hearts in spans of light.
Now there are no strangers,
no disagreements and no dangers,
in this ancient place inspired
with the quickness of birdsong
and children's spinning laughter,
sunlight swings in the windows,
wind dances to the open doors,
and we sit enthralled by the messenger harp
reminding us of the Cause that gave life to us all.
Take heart.
Feel it pass, as bright as loving glances,
see it light up faces,
as it leaps from life to life,
alighting in secret places,
clean as a swallow's flight
and light as faerie dancers,
warm as family,
deep as love,
the sacred fire of music!
